“Cannot insert object” error in an ActiveX -Security Patch Issue

Affected Users: Global



 You will get one of the Error in Excel


  • Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found.
  • Cannot insert object.



  • Please check your system whether you have Admin rights.  if not through following steps


Step1: Click the bottom of the right side calendar on your desktop.

Step2: Click the “Change Date and time setting” after that click “Date and time change”().

If you get error kindly raise the Admin rights request through control panel.


  • Please open this path Control Panel\System and Security\System. Please check your system type is 32 or 64 bit.
  • Please open the control panel and click view installed updates. Enter the below security patch number in top of right side search text box 


If this patch is not available in your system please download the patch through following website. Right click the downloaded file and run it Admin mode

  • Install the patch in the following order and uninstall it in the reverse order. Then install it in again in  the normal order then remove the temp files

  • Once installed the software then delete the temp file through following steps

If this patch is not available in your system please download the patch through following website. Right click the downloaded file and run it Admin mode

Final Steps:


  1. Close all the MS office applications like Excel, Word etc


  1. Enter the text %temp% in start menu . Delete the all temporary files.


  1. Please reboot your machine once this is done.





  1. Go to Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update
  2. Click on “Check online for updates from Windows Update” and install the updates
  3. Follow the steps mentioned for “Runtime error – Object Required” error
  4. Please reboot your machine once this is done.

  1. If any of the above solution doesn’t work then go to control panel > program features > Repair office > Then reboot the machine
